CNMs do NOT have to be nominated by Lily or Jan or anyone else. Interested parties should fax their résumé’s to the Board of Nursing, Attn: Quandra Horton fax 410 358 3530. The CNMs who sent their materials to Lily Fountain should please fax them with resume to Quandra.
On an ongoing basis members of this committee receive copies of the joint agreement with physicians applications from CNMs and need to fax whether they approve or recommend discussion of agreements. It has not generally been a problem for anyone to get approved unless they did not follow instructions re: paperwork to submit.
If legislation to remove the physician agreement passes, this committee would no longer be necessary and Peer Review Committee would remain.
Three states Texas, Arkansas, and Nebraska are trying to get rid of physician oversight of CNMs via practice agreements. The National Council of the state boards of nursing has recommended model Advanced Practice Nurse guidelines that do NOT include physician oversight.
